Clean Water Act discharge permits

Anyone who discharges to a river, lake or coastal water in the United States holds an NPDES permit: sewage treatment plants, factories, livestock operations, mines, municipal storm sewers and construction sites. These pages group the current register by state, by city, by the watershed the discharge reaches, and by the kind of operation permitted.

By what is permitted

By permit type

By watershed

Every permit is placed on the national Watershed Boundary Dataset, so a discharge can be read at the scale it matters: the subbasin, the watershed inside it, or the subwatershed the outfall sits in.
