Carrier Safety Delta

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration registers 2,096,180 motor carriers in the United States, of which 1,381 the census records with no state at all. Its Safety Measurement System files those carriers’ road record under seven Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories — the BASICs — and this desk counts what the register holds for each one, for each jurisdiction. 5,834,148 inspections, 6,808,260 violations and 255,582 reportable crashes, 6,801 of them fatal, stand behind the counts below.

Counts from FMCSA SMS input files on data.transportation.gov: kjg3-diqy (Motor Carrier Census, 2,122,441 rows), rbkj-cgst (Inspection, 5,834,148), 8mt8-2mdr (Violation, 6,808,260), 4wxs-vbns (Crash, 255,582), p2mt-9ige (Out of Service Orders, 399,600); SoQL aggregates fetched 2026-09-16. A category’s figure is the register’s own count for that category, added up; a jurisdiction’s page prints the same addition for one state.
