Crop-loss bands by county
The Risk Management Agency files, for every insured county and commodity in the United States, the premium paid, the indemnity paid, the liability insured, the quantity planted and lost, and the policies that filed a loss — by cause and by year. That file is history, and the agency publishes it free. What no source publishes is the county-crop’s own band: the range its annual loss ratio has actually run, read against the causes that produced it. That band is the join, and these pages are how a farm operator reaches their own county before a policy is signed rather than after a claim.

A county-crop reaches a page here only if it clears the desk’s floors: at least five filed years, and at least a quarter of a million dollars of filed premium, and a county needs more than one commodity clearing them. A band of two or three years is not a band, and a page about one number is not a page this desk publishes.
